Troubleshoot local runs
Resolve the most common local discovery, provider, connection, and result-retrieval problems.
No workflows appear
Point discovery at a specific flow file or dedicated directory:
uv run ava dev --flows ./src/my_workflow/flow.py
The operator imports candidate Python modules. Keep workflow builders import-safe, avoid import-time side effects, and do not scan a repository root with unrelated Python.
A model-backed step cannot run
Configure an LLM provider in the environment of the operator process. In a starter workspace, run:
bash scripts/configure-provider.sh
Check the model identifier on @ava.agent_step or workflow agent_defaults.
Avalanche sends agent-model requests through LiteLLM, so provider credentials
must be available to the process running the workflow.
The browser UI cannot connect
Confirm the operator is running at the address passed to ava web:
uv run ava operator --flows ./flows --port 7433
uv run ava web --connect localhost:7433 --port 7435
The defaults are operator gRPC 7433, webhook ingress 7434 when routes exist,
and browser UI 7435.
A code change did not refresh discovery
The live watcher follows eligible Python source changes. Restart the operator when a non-Python resource used at import time changes, such as a JSON file that defines workflow metadata.
Result download fails because the destination exists
ava result --output-dir PATH requires a new destination directory. Choose a
new path rather than reusing an existing one:
uv run ava result RUN_ID --wait --output-dir ./run-result-002
A rerun is missing its input
Supply input= again for a rerun that needs workflow input. Avalanche does not
restore input from the source run.
Need a supported surface
